Sometimes I wonder if I’m one of those people who always likes to strive. Work towards a goal. (Any goal!) I’ve always enjoyed the process of getting fit and losing weight. The early morning spin classes! The yummy salads!* The after-exercise burrrrn of a good weight session! Sometimes it’s not even about the final destination or goal, it’s about the journey. (Okay, unless there’s a wedding and a teeny-tiny dress to fit into. )
The problem is, I always seem to use reaching my goal as an excuse to slide right back to where I started. You see, I love indulging just as much as I love getting shape—therein lies my conundrum. I love excess. I’ve always been an all-or-nothing kinda gal, and it’s something I’m trying to change.
IT’S SOMETHING I’M TRYING TO CHANGE
So, this time round, I’m trying to focus my efforts on small gradual changes. Baby steps. Working out at Fitness First, has been great (but not the lycra part!) The next was equipping myself with all the right tools. I’ve been a looong time user of apps like Calorie King and My Fitness Pal but when I heard about the Fitbit, I just had to have one. You wear it on your wrist and it measures your daily activity along with your sleep pattern. It really is amazing.
Along with the Fitbit, I also picked up a Aria Wifi Smart Scale. It wirelessly syncs your stats with your Fitbit account (you can also sync your myfitnesspal account to it) and hey presto, you’ve got a complete and instant snapshot of your health. You know exactly what you’re eating, how much you’re moving (or not), and sleeping each and every night, all in one place.
What I’m loving, is feeling like I’m officially ‘back in the saddle’. (Yee haw! Sorry couldn’t resist.) Being back in control. Actively doing something—but not to excess. I’ll be honest, not every day is perfect—far from it—but I’m thinking about the long term now. About the idea of being healthier and fitter a year from now. And right now, I’m loving that. (Accepting where I am right now.) And for the first time, I’m okay with that. MC
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS,
This post is sponsored by Fitness First. Note: I was also given $250 to spend on anything I like to help me on my fitness journey.
