I get around. No, no, not like that. I mean, I travel – a lot. Every spare penny (and there aren’t that many) I squirrel away in the hope that they will take me somewhere interesting. Sometimes, I’m lucky enough to get all the way to NYC and beyond, and other times I get as far as Tasmania. (http://www NULL.puretasmania NULL.com NULL.au/home NULL.html) Not that I’m complaining; I’ve fallen head over heels in love with the island state.

My trip down south was a delight of epic culinary and cultural proportions. Since we stayed at one of Hobart’s best boutique hotels (http://www NULL.thehenryjones NULL.com/), The Henry Jones Art Hotel, it was only fitting that the first stop on our cultural tour was the MONA (Museum of  Old and New Art).

THE EXPERIENCE IS AKIN TO STEPPING INTO A JAMES BOND MOVIE

To be honest, I didn’t expect to be blown away, considering I’d just come back from seeing the Guggenheim and MOMA in New York. And let’s face it – it was going to be hard to top that! The MONA is in a league of it’s very own, my friends. Though you can drive, we decided to take the ferry (they have their very own) over to Berridale. Once you get there, the experience is akin to stepping into a James Bond movie. The architecture! The gardens! The view!

And I haven’t even gotten to the art yet. The MONA is home to the infamous work of Melbourne-based artist Greg Taylor, whose vagina sculptures get the most interesting reaction of all. And it doesn’t stop there. Oh no! Every piece of art is aimed to delight, inspire, but mostly shock. And they do a damn fine job of it at that. Put the MONA on your list, I promise you won’t regret it. MC

// Enjoying the scenery at the MONA.

// One day I will own a house just like this.

// The ipods you use to navigate your way around the MONA.

// The sheer scale of the MONA. Amazing!

// SilverFox taking it all in.

// One of my favourite pieces.

// I loved this room.

// Again, not what you think it’s going to be.

// Prepare to be shocked!

// The infamous hallway of cast vaginas.

// You never know what’s around the next corner. Cue: creepy sound effects.

// The beautiful café at the MONA.

// A hard earned pie after a fabulous day of Art.

// I’ll be back!
