I didn’t think I was a secret shopper. Hell, I’ve always been pretty upfront about my addiction. I think it dawned on me that I had a problem when I asked for a spare locker at uni. Nope, not for all the extra books I’d been buying, but to stash my purchases so no one would find out. (I’ve never told anyone that, I hope you’re not reading this Mum!) I know, sickening isn’t it?
Thank god for reality TV, after binge-watching back-to-back episodes of Hoarders and getting a crazy twitch in my eye, I went on a spring cleaning mission and threw everything I didn’t need out. I vowed to stop comfort-shopping (a lot like comfort eating except a whole lot more expensive!) No more binge-shopping. This year is all about responsible shopping. (Is that a thing? If it’s not, then now it is!)
SO EVERY SEASON, I MAKE A DAY OF IT!
So every season, I make a day of it. I head to the city solo with a plan of attack. And this time it just so happens that I headed out in my new set of wheels, the Ford EcoSport Titanium. Now, of course, it looks great, and it drives like the road is made of marshmallows. BUT! It also has excellent boot space for all those purchases! Bingo! See, not just a pretty face.
I spend a few hours browsing in book stores and having coffee (and a sweet treat too) with a serious side of people watching and then I just wander around window shopping until I decide what I’m going to buy! I always buy a few trend pieces from chain stores, I might even splurge on a nice jacket, but that’s it. I don’t go overboard. (Okay, and a little bit of makeup. And I might have been suckered into those shoes too. Okay, two pairs.)
Well, maybe I haven’t totally been cured of my addiction, but it’s an excellent way to spend a day solo. Who needs yoga retreats and therapy when you’ve got shopping and a car made for it? MC
