There are two areas on the body that instantly give away your age. Unless you intend to walk around looking cray-cray in a turtleneck as an homage to the late Steve Jobs and an eye patch looking like an extra off the set of Pirates of The Carribbean; the eyes and neck reveal all. Although that said, I’m pretty sure I saw someone dressed just like that at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week! Just sayin’.
About a year ago, I started to notice some very fine lines on my neck. Enough to make me freak out and start slathering my neck with Kiehls Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate ($89) morning and night. It took about three months to notice any difference at all. Six months later, my lines have almost completely faded – but I’m not going to lie – I don’t think they’ll ever disappear entirely. Unless I stop moving my neck. Not really an option, is it? Needless to say, I’m thrilled to bits with the results and time will only tell if they come back.
THE EYES AND THE NECK REVEAL ALL.
About six weeks ago I started trialling emerginC scientific organics’ eyelight cream ($75) which contains grape stem cells that apparently help fight the good fight against photo-aging and other active ingredients aimed at reducing the signs of aging, puffiness and dark circles.
Fine lines, thankfully, aren’t a massive problem for me yet – but dark circles are. I can get a full eight hours sleep and still wake up looking like I rolled home at 5am after the Prince concert after party.
The results I’ve had with the eyelight cream in the last six weeks have been promising. The darkest part of the under eye area closest to my inner eye has almost faded completely. I’m still dark under my eyes, but the tone has definitely evened out. I can’t wait to see what the results are in another six weeks.
Guess I’m going to have to donate the bad turtleneck and eyepatch to the Salvos after all…MC

I don’t know about you, but when I was growing up, you washed your hair with what your mum bought. In my case, Pert. I don’t think it even exists now, but for those of you playing at home, it was this awful-detergent-smelling-two-in-one shampoo (and conditioner). Then after a lot of begging, promising to hang out the washing, and making my bed every day (hospital corners and all), I finally got upgraded to Pantene. I was livin’ the dream. Livin’ the dream.
When I think about it, not that much changes as you get older. You start out buying flats at Big W next thing you know, you’re shelling out $150 for a pair from Wittner. (Outrageous!) Then one day you spend your first pay check on a pair of Marc Jacob Ballerina Flats for $250 smacks. Ouch! Expensive – granted – but deep down you know they’re worth every penny. And while you still wear your trusty Big W pair, your MJs have stolen your heart.
My road to investing in great skincare has been the same. I didn’t start out buying expensive lotions and potions, in fact, a lot of my favourites today you can find at your local Priceline – but if I find something that works – I’m prepared to pay for it. Last year, I was in the my favourite city (I know I don’t even need to tell you where) and I dropped (stop reading now SilverFox) a big bag o’ money on Crème De La Mer.
OH DEAR. I JUST WENT THERE.
Suffering from a serious case of credit-card-amnesia, I ended up buying the entire range on a friend’s recommendation (she has amazing glow-y skin). With apparent delusions of grandeur, (that happens a lot) I forgot that I didn’t have the plush bank account of Beyonce. Booty, yes. Bank account balance, no.
Needless to say, La Mer’s The Concentrate fast became my favourite product from the range. It’s also the most expensive (trust!). Retailing for $850 for 50ml in Australia, I think I paid about $380 at Saks NY. Either way – it’s gonna hurt. Truth be told, because it’s so darn expensive I only apply it three times a week, at night. And, only on freshly cleansed skin. I also use my Clarisonic for maximum penetration. Oh dear. I just went there.
Penetration jokes aside, I’d say that I noticed a visible difference after the first month. It’s hard to describe, but my skin is less sallow looking. Overall, it looks brighter and the tone appears more even. It’s the only product that I’ve come across that makes my skin look ‘plump’. I’ve also found that it works a treat on little pimple scars too. Without wanting to sound like a cliché (too late!) raving on about how great a ridiculously expensive product is – it really is.
So if one day, you happen to wake up with a similar diagnosis of credit-card amnesia, why not drop a few hundy on a bottle – you won’t regret it. Just make sure you don’t go developing a taste for foie gras; that shiz is expensive! As for me, you’ll find me at Big W, checking out their latest range. At least until my credit card is paid off… MC
